Susan L. Kim

Susan L. Kim is a visiting
fellow and coordinator of the music theory department at the Yong
Siew Toh Conservatory of the National University of Singapore. In
the first partnership of its kind between a leading university in
the Asia Pacific and a conservatory in the US, the National University
of Singapore collaborated with the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns
Hopkins University to establish this conservatory, and Dr. Kim is
one of its founding faculty members. She received her doctorate
in music theory from the University of California, Santa Barbara,
writing her dissertation on rhythmic development and motivic process
in the chamber music of Johannes Brahms. As a teaching associate
at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. Kim received
an Outstanding Faculty Award. She also holds a bachelor's degree
in piano performance from the University of California, Berkeley,
winning the prestigious Eisner Prize for Creative Arts in Piano
Performance during her time there. Dr. Kim enjoys operas, travel,
and playing beach volleyball.
